FOREST OF MIRRORS
WELTMUSEUM WIEN, Austria, 25 May - 7July 2019
Forest of Mirrors explores the aspects and patterns of landscape that emerge when a forest mirrors itself in black water lagoons on the Amazonian border between Ecuador and Peru.
Inspired by Sieko-pai cosmology, the exhibition invites the spectator into an animate landscape and hence a different perception of nature, where humans, animal and spirits hold a common anthropomorphic essence (culture) that displays itself in different forms (or natures). In this sense, the mirrors establish a dialogue between different points of view.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between anthropologist Stine Krøijer and photographer Mike Kollöffel. The material was generated through joint fieldwork in the Ecuadorian Amazon between 2014 and 2017.
Forest of Mirrors is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, the Danish Research Council for Independent Research and DJ Fotografernes Ophavsretsfond.
